Action for Economic Justice
If you were cruising down Business 83 in McAllen, you may have noticed a group of protesters outside Zushi Restaurant. Our News Reporter Tom Rader stopped by to find out what all the commotion was about.
Protesters gathered outside of Zushi Restaurant, in opposition to alleged wage law violations.
Members of the Texas Civil Rights Project gathered outside of Zushi Restaurant in McAllen chanting when to day what do we want that they pay us; for some protesters it was a matter of basic civil rights.

But the protest took public relations and manager for the restaurant Alexandra Clineschmit by surprise. She feels as though the protest is misguided and that the claims are not correct.
The case is currently being handled by the Texas Workforce Commission.

Fuerza del Valle Workers Center, a project of the Equal Voice Network, organized a protest against Zuzhi Restaurant Bar and the Vice Club (same owners) for failure to pay promised and minimum wage to their employees.
Zuzhi and Vice workers came to one of Fuerza’s Know Your Rights Clinics, hosted by La Union del Pueblo Entero (LUPE) in San Juan. The workers formed a committee of Fuerza and organized the powerful protest of the McAllen restaurant and bar that was attended by 60 people from as far away as Brownsville.
A youth group from Proyecto Juan Diego, LUPE members, South Texas Civil Rights Project, and others engaged in the struggle for the rights of workers participated.
Fuerza is a collaboration of nonprofit and community organizations to address a range of workplace injustices, including the epidemic of wage theft. At Fuerza, low-wage workers and families are empowered to pursue economic justice through leadership development, community organizing, advocacy, and direct services.
